Something not working, or a question? Write to us. A person who works on Shuttle reads every message.

It helps to tell us your macOS version and what you were recording: a display, a window or an area.

Where your recordings are

Every recording is an .mp4 in ~/Movies/Shuttle (Shuttle in the Movies folder of your home folder), unless you chose another folder in Settings > General. Subtitle files (.srt) sit next to the video they belong to.

To get there, use Open Recordings Folder in Shuttle's menu bar item, Reveal in Finder on the review screen, or the Library (⌘L). Files are named Shuttle_{date}_{time} unless you change the format in Settings > General.

Permissions

Shuttle explains each one before macOS asks for it.

PermissionWhyIf you say no
Screen Recording To capture the display, window or area you pick Shuttle cannot record
Camera To show the webcam bubble in your recording Recording works without the bubble
Microphone To record your voice Recording works without your voice
Speech Recognition Only if you turn on Auto Subtitles, to create the .srt file No subtitles are generated
Notifications To tell you when a recording is saved (asked the first time one is saved) No notification; saving is unaffected

You can change any of them later in System Settings > Privacy & Security.

Common questions

Shuttle says it cannot record the screen.
Screen Recording is missing or was switched off. In System Settings > Privacy & Security, allow Shuttle under Screen Recording, then relaunch Shuttle. The banner in Shuttle's window has a button for each step.
The webcam bubble or my voice is missing.
Check Camera and Microphone in System Settings > Privacy & Security, and that both are switched on under the viewfinder. Without them Shuttle still records, only without the bubble or your voice.
How do I get a recording onto YouTube?
On the review screen, Upload to YouTube opens YouTube's upload page in your browser and shows the file in Finder, so you can drag it in. Shuttle never uploads anything itself.
How do subtitles work?
Turn on Auto Subtitles before you record. When the recording ends, Shuttle transcribes the audio on your Mac and writes an .srt file with the same name next to the .mp4, ready to add as captions.
Which keyboard shortcuts are there?
⌘⇧R starts a recording, cancels the countdown or stops; ⌘⇧P pauses and resumes. Both work from any app and can be changed in Settings > Shortcuts.
How do I remove everything Shuttle keeps?
Delete the app, then the folder ~/Library/Containers/ch.pixeesoft.shuttle, which holds the history, thumbnails and settings. Recordings stay in your save folder until you delete them.

Requirements
